Have you ever faced a judgement for your words? Do people also demotivate you by questioning your skills? Do they constantly challenge your writing career?
If so,
Then, congrats! You are on the right path.
You can also build consistency by preparing a personal/professional codex.

A Mini Glimpse from My Journey
I started my writing career with eight lines. I never thought that those eight lines would become life-changing words. From them, I found my purpose. The journey from being a writer to a True writer came with many obstacles— rejections, judgements, and negative comments.
My mentors always taught me to accept the feedback and rewrite to improve. Never hesitate to grow. They told me the benefits of reading, learning, sharing, collecting feedback and rewriting.
And today, after five years, I proudly say I am a true writer.
Learning is constant. Never feel ashamed of your words. If you want to be a true writer, accept feedback positively and transform it into your strength.
We all know that anyone can write. But not everyone is a writer. And not a true writer who writes everything deeply.
A true writer understands the words more influentially than others. They know the techniques of writing so that it seems professional, perfect and attractive.
A few years ago, I thought writing was just a few words. However, later, I realised that it is not merely a collection of words; it carries great responsibility.
We indeed live in a world where everything is flooded with reels, posts, phrases, and AI. And we can’t negate that it somehow suppresses the value of a true writer.
But, those who want to make a strong writing foundation should understand the need for a True writer in the industry.
The demand for quality scripts is increasing consistently. The Industries need prominent scripts that they can sell to theatres, OTTs and audiences.
Never believe that the era of True writers is diminishing; only a true writer can deliver a quality script to the industry. It is the perfect time to focus on yourself, gain knowledge, and develop the skills and experience needed to become a true writer.
So, who exactly is a true writer? And what sets them apart?
Definition of a True Writer
A True writer understands and follows the entire spectrum of the writing process— all writing techniques, the art of communication and quality writing.
They write with purpose, not to fill some words on a page. They respect the growth journey behind every draft. They choose clarity over complexity and depth over decoration. They maintain discipline throughout the entire process, recognising the impact of words and using them responsibly. Their scripts articulate more than the actors.
Five primary qualities that make a writer a true writer is the set-up that they use for themselves and sets them apart.
A True writer must be,
- A Good Reader.

A true writer reads widely across genres, cultures and styles. They don’t just read the words but live the words and dive into them wholly. They remain curious and sharp, sensing the rhythm that helps them evolve. Reading and learning fuel their creativity. They accept the other’s creativity and learn from them. They read to build a strong foundation for themselves.
- A Deep Observer

A True writer notices things others overlook. They are silent observers who notice expressions, emotions, actions, silences and happenings in the environment. They study the behaviour silently. Their observation fuels imagination. It helps writers capture life with authenticity, making characters believable and settings vivid. These tiny details breathe life into stories and allow readers to connect deeply with the writer.
- A Good Narrator(Storyteller)

A True writer focuses on their communication skills. They know that tone, pacing, and silence matter as much as words. They use their words humbly and professionally, which never sounds extraordinary. They artistically tell their stories so that their audience doesn’t just listen or view them but can also feel them. A skilled writer develops a strong narrative voice that connects with the audience. Their engaging presence captivates hearts.
- A Feedback Taker

The best quality of a true writer is that they find positivity in everything. They are excellent feedback takers. They handle every criticism, comment and response with maturity. They separate ego from craft, knowing that every suggestion is a chance to improve.
A True writer accepts diverse perspectives and values honest opinions. They analyse feedback with curiosity and learn from the rest. For them, growth matters more than praise.
- A rewriter

A true writer is a dedicated rewriter. They understand that the first draft is the raw draft. They constantly revise their work and are willing to craft it with refined ideas. They follow techniques in the scripts. Rewriting helps them uncover deeper truths, clarify messages, and eliminate what doesn’t serve the story. They’re not afraid to cut, revise, or start over if needed. They know the facts that rewriting is where the actual writing begins.
Sometimes, people have misunderstandings about who is a true writer and who is not.
Some qualities are never visible in a true writer.
- Write for likes, not for the purpose.
- Give up preparing a script/content.
- Feel only they are right and do not take feedback.
- Never seems curious.
- Not an Observer/Actiontaker.
- Give up after a single rejection.
- Copies others.
- Never shows interest in learning and evolving.
- Never choose to rewrite.

Here are some breakdowns;

The Invisible Weapons of a True Writer
MINDSET & BELIEFS(Tools + Habits)
- Morning Writing Rituals
A true writer honours the morning as sacred. They devote 30–60 quiet minutes to stillness and a journal. This habit helps bypass the overthinking brain. They often follow the S.A.V.E.R.S. routine: Silence for clarity, Affirmations to build belief, Visualisation to see success, Exercise for energy, Reading for inspiration, and Scribble to unleash creativity. These practices awaken the writer within.
- Writing Tools That Work
A true writer values tools that support creativity and clarity. They allow screenwriting tools for the best screenplay structure. Google Docs, Word files, or notebooks to draft anywhere inspiration strikes. Whiteboards help them visualise plot flow and scene beats. A True writer builds systems that keep their storytelling alive, flexible, and always in motion.
- Reading atleast 10 Pages a Day
A true writer reads 10 pages or more a day. They don’t just consume stories; they study them like a devoted student.
Reading becomes a masterclass in their craft. This daily habit sharpens their instincts and fuels their imagination.
- Walking to Solve Story Problems
A true writer knows that sometimes, the best writing happens away from the desk. Walking has become a trusted tool to solve story problems. Silent walks in nature offer space for the subconscious mind to work quietly, without pressure. Instead of forcing solutions with constant conscious effort, they allow ideas to breathe and unfold naturally.
- Dedicated “Thinking Time”
A true writer respects the power of dedicated thinking time for pure thought. In this quiet space, ideas are free to breathe without pressure or deadlines. A true writer knows that thinking is not idle—it’s essential.
- Writing Sprints with Timers
A true writer follows the Pomodoro technique—25 minutes of focused writing followed by a 5-minute break. This simple rhythm builds discipline and flow, helping them show up consistently. The timer becomes a gentle coach, reminding them that progress matters more than page fillings.
Where do story ideas come from in a True Writer?
A true writer finds stories in the everyday. They draw inspiration from conversations, random observations, and emotional echoes. Nothing is too small or ordinary.
